South Street Police Detail – Alliance
MISSION:
The Alliance has been working to promote graffiti removal and prosecution. We are also working with local community and merchant groups to promote the installation of video surveillance cameras through grants and private money. Increasing numbers of theft from auto, burglaries and street crime will be receiving more attention by the police and the community organizations. See our latest safety tips below.
HISTORY:
The Alliance was formed in the early 1990s to create a liaison between the Police Department and the community.
Lt. Joseph Bologna, now Captain Bologna of the 19th District, organized the PSA 1 stakeholders to better serve the local business and residential communities as a liaison group to communicate with the Commander of the South Street Police District. His work resulted in better communications and real results in crime reduction and arrests.
Under the leadership of the Lt. Michael Goodson, the Alliance was formally organized to have representatives from each of the major business and community organizations from within the PSA 1. He has created an environment of productive meetings through open communications and structured meetings.
Lt. Goodson holds monthly meetings with the business and community organizational leaders and/or their representatives. The agenda includes police crime reports and arrest reports. In addition, the Lieutenant receives input from the Alliance to better understand the ongoing concerns of each organizations. The police and the Alliance also prepare and plan for large street events impacting the South Street corridor. On a monthly basis the Alliance selects an officer of the month, now known as the “Jeff Rush Award,” which is presented to an officer for his/her outstanding service in the line of duty.
